Face and Neck Contouring Tutorial By RikkuGrape
Quick Contouring: Lady (Chest and Neck)
Okay! So, in my CosBox for August I received some bronzer. It's Wet-n-Wild brand in the shade 741A or "Princess".
Before I start with a little contouring tutorial let's talk about the bronzer itself. For me, this shade of bronzer was a little warm, but Wet-n-Wild makes them in lots of various shades so that's really nice! I ended up using my own brush to apply the bronzer as well. The brush included is good if you don't have anything else but it's thin, and angled, and I prefer a round brush with a little more fulness. Other than that, I felt this bronzer was pretty darn good! The powder itself is nice and fine and it went on pretty dark, and even without needed to get much powder on the bunch. The little case it's in is also nice because it has a lid, and anything powdered can get messy! All in all, I thought this bronzer was easy to use, and it worked well for the contouring. I would use it again, especially in a shade that was better suited for my skin tone.
Alright, let's move on to the tutorial!
Step 1:This step shows the bronzer included in the CosBox, and also the brush that I chose to use. You can use the brush included with the bronzer, but I prefer a round brush so that's what I used for the tutorial. You'll also see that I used a highlight, or a white powder. The key to contouring isn't just adding shadows--highlight is what really brings it all together. So, I used a white highlighting powder I had on hand, and you'll see I actually used the brush from the bronzer to apply it. For this, the narrow brush that came with the bronzer was idea. You want your highlight to be concentrated and bright so the brush that came with the bronzer worked really well for that.
Step 2:Start by adding shadow to your jawline. When you contour, you want to accent the natural shadows of your body. So, follow along your jawline and apply the bronzer. Make sure you blend the bronzer. Shadows fade, so you want to make sure that you blend your bronzer instead of having a harsh line.
Step 3:Moving on to the neck and chest. To make your collar bones stand out, you can apply bronzer the parts above and under the bones that sink in. Doing that will create more shadow. Again, blend the bronzer so it's not harsh.
Step 4: To accent your cleavage, the same rules apply. Darken the center of your cleavage, and pull the bronzer up about your bust at a curve. The best shadowing I've found is in the shape of breast implants. That probably sounds silly, but it's really effective! If you've ever seen a good pair of augmented breasts you'll notice they have a particular curve to the tops. Follow that curve when contouring your breasts. The addition of a highlight will really pull it all together!
Step 5:This step shows us what the contouring looks like before adding a highlight. It's pretty effective at this stage, so if you don't have a white stick, or white powder you can use as a highlight you can still do some really nice and effective contouring.Step 6;Lastly, I added some highlight to my jawline (above where I did my shadowing), my collar bones and to the tops of my breasts (below where I did my contouring). Shadows and highlights work together for the most effective contouring.
This tutorial is pretty short, but remember when contouring that you want to add shadows to your natural shadows, and highlights where you want things to stand out. You can use contouring to accent your natural features and even to change your features! It's a pretty cool, and pretty fun technique.
The bronzer fromm this month's CosBox was really fun to play with! Let me know if you'd be interested in more contouring tutorials, or videos! Thanks!
